MacHamish Gunn / ‘Clan Gunn Chief’ family tree chartI have just been sent this tree. I suspect it is an early version – or perhaps a poor copy – of Captain Alexander Gunn’s 1896 tree which I discuss in my book, but I could be wrong. it. To explain the numbers–
1) William Gunn ‘Chief of the Clan Gunn’ who died in India in 1780. 5) William Gunn’s father ‘Captain’ Alexander Gunn of Badenloch and later of Wester Helmsdale. ‘Chief.’ 6) William Gunn’s grandfather Donald Crotach Gunn of Badenloch. ‘Chief.’ 2) Daughter of ‘Chief’ Donald Crotach Gunn who married John Gunn in Kinbrace. 3) John Gunn in Kinbrace. 4) Donald Gunn of Braehour and Brawlbin, from whom I descend. To the left of Donald Gunn of Braehour and Brawlbin are the ‘Clan Gunn Chiefs’ recognised by the Sutherland Estate in the 1800s, the male line of which is extinct. The tree is important as, although not perfect, it is further proof that Donald Crotach’s daughter married John Gunn in Kinbrace from whom exist living Gunns who have always held the surname Gunn since Coroner Gunn. There is a huge amount of evidence for the marriage of Donald Crotach’s daughter to John Gunn in Kinbrace – see https://clangunn.weebly.com/clan-gunn-chief---descent-from-donald-crotach-gunn-6th-mackeamish.html - and nothing to dispute the fact. In other words, nothing is known which argues that a daughter of Donald Crotach Gunn did not marry John Gunn in Kinbrace. In other words the old MacHamish Senior line (‘Clan Gunn Chief’ line for the fantasists’) has not become extinct which is the basis of the absurd invention of a ‘Clan Gunn Chief’ in 2015. ***** For the Canadians and Americans out there - half way down the right-hand side of the tree is the Hon. Donald Gunn of Manitoba whose line is very much alive.

Thank you for the examination. I have spent countless hours examining hundreds of articles and researching 5 ancestry platforms. I found it difficult to tie together the facts and assumptions which led to eager misinterpretations on our lineage.
