The map is suggestive of various groups of Gunns. The idea of the Gunns as a non-kindred 'tribe' is supported by such a map.

Ramscraigs – A Caithness Story The history, genealogy and folklore of the Henderson family of Ramscraigs, Berriedale and Dunbeath, Caithness
http://ramscraigs.com is an excellent site for Henderson discussion but also has much of relevance for Gunn history. It's views about Gunn history I have found well worth considering. It's a site I thoroughly recommend.
Early Gunn Wick orientated photographs; the Johnston Collection of photographs
Go to http://www.johnstoncollection.net/search_results.aspx and type in Gunn. Absolutely fantastic!
Helmsdale 'Timespan' Museum http://timespan.org.uk
'Timespan' is a lovely place to visit when in Helmsdale - it has a museum, an art gallery, a genealogical archive, a shop, a nice restaurant (I had a a great lunch last time I was there) and much more. I thoroughly recommend it.
People of Medieval Scotland 1093-1314
This 'People of Medieval Scotland' site provides a superb resource for those studying early Scottish history. It's extremely useful as it shows Gunns (and those who were linked to Gunns) being of no importance at this time; they don't exist in the records. As the site says 'it is a database of all known people of Scotland between 1093 and 1314' mentioned in over 8600 contemporary documents'. It is fair to assume that Gunns were of no importance in this period in Medieval Scotland as otherwise they would be visible on this site. See http://www.poms.ac.uk/
Badbea Caithness - the 'Gunn Diaspora'
The website for the clearance village of Badbea is excellent. Here is the particular page relating to the 'Gunn diaspora' from that village -

DNA testing and the Gunns
The area of DNA testing will provide some important information about Gunn genealogy and Gunn history. Here is a link to one site discussing the issue - http://scottishdna.blogspot.com.au/ and http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Caithness/default.aspx
'Scotlands places' website - http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/
This site provides detailed information on many places using primary source information. For example, Caithness has 6,182 related records. 536 records for Gunn - see http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/transcriptions/search/gunn#medieval-atlas The Caithness section looks fascinating. Finally you need to pay to get to the real entries unless you are willing to work to help transcribe the entries...
