The Gunn Papers; 'The Northern Chronicle'
Here is a small series of newspaper articles from 'The Northern Chronicle' in 1911, by D.M.R. (D. Murray Rose).
I note Mark Rugg Gunn's view 'It has been exceedingly difficult to know what importance to attach to these papers. The writer gives no clue regarding the origin of of his information, but quotes with apparent authority a number of ancient manuscripts which are, as far as I know, unrecorded elsewhere. Some of these are genuine enough and are already known, but others are so grossly at variance with what is recorded elsewhere that their worth and authenticity must remain in doubt until they reappear and are examined in a critical light.' (page 4.) Certainly one should always question material which is not sourced but equally material which is well known and accepted can be wrong, see the Kinbrace story....
